Message from the Chair

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the website for the University of Chicago Women's Board. This website, launched during our 45th anniversary year in 2005, reflects our efforts to increase the visibility of the Women's Board, not only to our members but also to the University community and the larger public. Our site contains valuable information about our Programs and the Projects funded with our members' contributions. We hope you enjoy using the site and find it valuable.

Jill F. Levi, Chair

Who We Are

Demographics
The Women's Board has more than 450 members. Our membership is diverse: approximately one third of our members are alumnae of the University, another ten percent are married to alumni and the rest, more than half of our members, are friends of the University. The Women's Board endeavors to maintain this balance in order to effectively expose people with a wide variety of relationships to Chicago to the important and interesting work of the University.

Intellectual Engagement
The Women’s Board is comprised of intellectually curious and dynamic women. We meet in an atmosphere that is both intellectually stimulating and socially welcoming. Our members and their guests enjoy an “inside” experience and connection with the vibrant University of Chicago community, through luncheon and evening presentations featuring the University’s extraordinary faculty.

Philanthropy
The Women's Board raises substantial funds from its membership each year. One hundred percent of the money received is used to fund academic programming and research, projects that enhance student life and University initiatives that benefit surrounding communities. All of these projects are chosen by Women's Board members serving on our Projects Committee.

Governance
The Chair of the Women's Board is appointed by the President of the University. The Steering Committee, appointed by the Chair, seeks to enhance the ways in which the Women's Board may be most valuable to its members and the University, and acts as the general policy-determining body of the Women's Board. The Projects Committee, convened by the Chair each spring, reviews and selects the projects to be funded by the Women's Board during the following fiscal year. The Women's Board fiscal year runs from July 1 through June 30.

Membership
Membership is by invitation only, and two current members must sponsor a prospective member. Inquiries should be directed to the Women's Board Executive Director, Bonita Mall, bmall@development.uchicago.edu, or (773) 834-0245.
