Please join us for a tour of Harlowarden Edwardian-era Japanese Tea Garden and Prairie School Home of Harlow and Susan Higinbotham.
Members of the Women’s Board are invited to visit the Edwardian – era Japanese Tea Garden and Prairie School home of Harlow and Susan Higinbotham. We will have a short orientation to the property at 10:30 am, a tour of the gardens and a talk by Women’s Board member Susan Higinbotham in the Tapestry Room about the Higinbotham family’s close ties to the University of Chicago. Susan’s husband’s grandfather helped guaranty the notes that John D. Rockefeller issued to finance the University, and she has put together a program about that involvement. We will converge in a special tent on the grounds for a buffet lunch at noon and conclude the day at 1:30 p.m. Weather permitting we will be provided with baskets and scissors and allowed to cut and take home as many peonies as we wish. We will provide bus transportation. Also, Harlowarden is a 30-minute drive from Hyde Park and there will be parking available on the lawn for those who chose to drive.
